One important aspect of a blackjack game is that the entire play is strictly following some specific set of rules and regulations, and like all the participating players, the dealer also has to observe them. The blackjack game dealer has no power in decision making in the gameplay or outcome of the hands. For this reason and also because no players are competing against one another, it is not illegal for the other players or the dealer to see what cards a particular player is holding in his hands. When one hand of play is over, the dealer goes up to each individual players in turn and hand them the payout if they have won and take away the chips from those who have lost. A player can take away his bet amount from the circle once he has been paid and place a new bet amount for the next hand. However, if he wants to continue playing with his winnings, his new bet including his profits must form a single chip stack.

When one wants to quit playing the game altogether, he can cash in his chip stack by taking it to the cashier who will pay the requisite dough. An important action before a player goes to cash in is the coloring up of the chips. So, a dealer can take away the smaller value chips from the player and give him equivalent amount of larger denomination chips. This helps in handling and managing chips better and anytime between the hands, a player can exchange his chips by coloring them up and get a smaller chip stack that can be used either for playing more games at another game table or for cashing in from the cashier.

All rookie blackjack players should know which color of chips is assigned what value and make no mistake while playing. A detail often overlooked by players, whether new or veteran, but that should not be missed, is to check out if the chips received in lieu of the cash paid are equivalent or not. In case of doubts, it is always advisable to go up to the dealer who is assigned the task of solving all queries from the players in addition to conducting the game. For the rookie gamblers, playing in ‘shoe’ games, the blackjack game dealer actively helps them in learning the ropes of the game and gain experience and confidence as players.

A very significant stage of entering into playing a blackjack game is buying the chips. The blackjack chips are sold to the players seated at the game table by the dealer himself and the chips are then used to place bets. While a player can join a blackjack game whenever there is a kind of break in the play and put the money he wants to stake on the game table in front of himself, some casino houses require the player to wait till the dealer has shuffled the playing cards before he can join the game. It is crucial that the player should know his optimal betting limits. Generally a player spends 10 to 20 times the value of his average bet amount for the buy-in. So if someone’s average bet size is $10, his ideal buy-in would be $100-200.

However, the cash must not be given to the dealer directly as he is forbidden to accept any cash from the players for security concerns. So, the player is required to put the cash on the game table from where the dealer collects it and gives the equivalent amount of chips. It should be borne in the mind that only the exact amount should be placed on the table with which to buy the chips. The dealer never returns any cash back as change and converts the whole amount put on the table into playing chips and gives them to the player.
